In high school art class we were studying the future of suburban communities. One of the assignments was to design and build a futuristic house. It was a fun project and one which made me feel proud and accomplished.
Today, suburban communities exist everywhere providing a popular and comfortable lifestyle for many people.
What is the new challenge which I am presenting to you? Consider building an architectural model of a futuristic house, a fantasy structure, a duplicate of your childhood home, or constructing a model of your current house or dream home.
The value of model making a structure is to give you a visual and tactile scenario of the structure. Architects build models of their structures to help clients see the final product before real construction begins.

The advantages of learning architectural model building as a hobby is the added benefit of building miniature rural, villages, suburban, town, city, and industrial sites for railroad modeling, public displays, doll houses, and other miniature projects.
The tools will vary with the type of foundation material which will be used. A pair of scissors, craft knife, scalpel or a sharp blade, a metal ruler, paste or glue, cutting mat, and pencil and paint will be the minimum tools required. If you wish, you may want to invest in an architectural scale to help calculate model scale and dimensions should you decide to habitually construct models.
The most important stage of constructing building models is the floor or house plan. Additional photos and drawings are added benefits. Planning is crucial. Model building requires patience, knowledge, art and craft skills, and the ability to perform detailed work.
As you build a model it may feel as though you are assembling a 3D puzzle, but you are the designer and therefore take more responsibility for its design, measurements, cutting, assembling, and finishing. The end result is different.
The purpose of the construction is at the beginning and at the end of the finished product. It is usually permanent and displayed for long periods of time. Assembling a 3D puzzle is mainly for leisure time pleasure which means after completion it will be taken apart, boxed, and stored until another occasion arises.

Anytime we feel uncomfortable with our appearance, we want to do something about it.
